In response to a request from The National trust of Australia to create a faithful rendition of a vase painted by one of Australias famous artists of the 1900s, Cone Nine Studios developed a unique set of technologies to create a limited edition reproduction of 300 vases.
The research and development behind this project has resulted in a new process that allows the accurate transfer of any image onto both conventional and unusual ceramic shapes, ideally suited for reproductions.
How was it achieved?
Using a combination of archeological photography techniques and computer graphic processes, an image map of the vase painting was created and fitted to a virtual 3D model of the vase. A physical model of the shape was then prepared and a decal pattern made using specialised software processes to remove distortions. Following further colour development, decals were printed and applied to the cast porcelain vases.
