The 'funky' Sonic Loop and Serpentine Bowls are two of a new range of collectible Ceramic table top bowls designed by Rod Bamford to either stand alone or cradle household items. Both are exhibited at the 'Smartworks' Exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum and are featured in the accompanying catalogue.
Each bowl is carefully dimensioned to afford a playful arrangement of different shapes, colours and sizes of fruit and vegetables along its looping contours, and the open structure allows air flow through the display. Striking supine shapes unite visual and utilitarian function in a beautiful and practical way .....iconic archetypes born of the convergence.
Works in this series are created using a combination of hand and digital technologies. The bowls convey an aesthetic of 'seamless perfection' found in manufactured porcelain yet each piece retains the unique imprints of studio handwork. Some of the pieces are finished with linear and abstracted botanical patterns in metallic shades, applied to the shapes using ceramic decals.
Each unique bowl is cast in porcelain and individually hand finished, available in 3 limited edition series of 50 pieces; 'Sonic Loop', 'Serpentine' and 'Fruit Loop'.
Also available in the series is the 'Drip' wall vase, ideal for single stem flowers. The series was launched at All Hand Made Gallery, Sydney in March 2007
